Horn question Empty Horn question

Hi
Is the vega horn specific to this line only? Or will any lambretta 6v AC horn fit? Also has anyone found a horn that doesn't embarass them & make then a laughing stock. Of a vespa or something?
Thanks
Mike

The Vega horn is different from many similar shaped 6v AC horns in that the back is chamfered to make it fit better to the frame. Unless you're after factory perfect restoration there's probably room to squeeze something else in there on a fabricated bracket. I've resurrected a few by carefully opening them up and re soldering the electrical joints that go 'dry' over time.

Thanks Paul
I'm not looking at factory specific which is handy as I don't have the original to try to resurrect. Sounds like it could be a tricky one to find one to fit.

If you want a 'dodge' to get through the mot I bought a battery powered horn from a good bicycle shop. It velcros to the handlebars and is plenty loud. I mentioned this to someone else and they dismissed it as 'they use the horn all the time' I don't so it works for me.

I think I have got through MOT's in the distant past with bolting these on

Ha- ha! Yes the 'original' fitment to many trials bikes! Unfortunately will no longer get you a pass as the horn 'must emit a continuous ,single tone'.

My horn sounds like a sick duck at idle on my Vega and cometa typical AC electrics! you have to rev it on the MOT to get any decent sound out of it they just laugh:oops: Embarassed  fortunately they are Lambretta sypathectic  Very Happy

ive fitted a normal horn in the past, ive just cut two nicks in the ridge and clamped it down on the frame.
my mot tester told me years ago, that if I turned up in an open face helmet he would have to pass it, as I could give the audible sound "fu**ing move"

The one continuos tone is Snails voice hence why the clown horn got an MOT pass!Wink

I'm thinking of giving this a go & hoping it both works and doesn't sound like a duck with dysentery!

Just make sure it's AC I bet it isn't if it's made for modern machines. A DC horn won't work unless it's powered by a battery.

not sure if it was on here or when lunabase was on the go, someone bought a small electronic beeper from ebay, not designed as a horn , but aparantly gave off quite a noise.
