I have a new project
We'll almost if the deal comes off. A Lui 50 in original Lime Green paint with a part built 75cc engine with it as well as some Vega parts to convert it to a Vega lookalike. I'm hoping it has a 4 speed gear hanger if not I'll be on here looking for bits. I do have a weakness for these machines.

Sounds good Paul, I'd consider another but I feel there's no real bargain's to be had anymore, plus if there not complete etc etc. Enjoy the new project and post up a photo if you clinch the deal

Re: I have a new project
Thanks but I've done the deed and it's now mine and the previous owner has given me all the spares he's amassed including the4 speed gear changer. I'll be drawing up a list of what I need and will post here and let Jem Booth know (he's always been my favourite source) . In the meantime if there's anything anyone needs that's 50 cc specific let me know as it will be a full 75cc engine transplant and I'll have no need of the original engine, carb or silencer.

I'm after a 50 flywheel (Snails said he'd have a look but if he cant find it I'll still need one), I could also do with a back light if you have one? Was going to put the rack and light on mine but mines a 50 (the racks were only on 75's, if I'm correct?)

Re: I have a new project
Post some piccies then Paul. Let's see her. Sounds like a good deal. What's missing from the 75 engine? I may be able to help with some of that too. Now mine is on the road I'm going to sell most of my remaining spares.

Adam. You are right. The 50 lui had a different light unit to the vega. The problem for all lui owners is figuring out what method you want to use to mount your reg plate. Vegas had a unit that acts as a reg plate holder and rear light unit holder. As 50s I don't think reg plates were required in Italy so there is no obvious way to fit a reg plate. The spine / ridge that runs down the frame makes this a little more tricky that you might first think. I was thinking of using a Vespa small frame reg plate holder as Vespas also have a ridge but not so big so you still maybe need to space this out a little

In the end I just fitted Vega items instead as I had holder and wanted a brake light as well

Hi Paul,
I need a crank with good threads, I might be interested in the complete engine if it's a runner.
Cheers,
Rob

Scooter Centre do a bracket that fastens to 2 of the side casing studs to hold the numberplate at the back of the engine

Re: I have a new project
The engine will be for sale as a complete unit with carb, silencer cylinder cowl but no flywheel cowl or kick start. I've no idea what to ask for it. Let me check it out but it looks clean and unmolested so no reason to believe it will not be a runner. I have no idea how to post pictures but could email some to a grown up that could post them for me! I have a Vega rear light bracket and a Vega headlight but the rim is average. I do have the original 50cc headlight and rim but is there a market for these?

Re: I have a new project
Looks good Paul. The rear light looks worrying similar to one that was fitted to my lui when I got it. The fitter had angle grinded the spine to allow it to fit.
Id forgotten about the reg plate brackets. A good idea. Has anyone ever tried one?
What's famous about your red Vega Paul?

What is the grey square item near the headstock?
Also I think you may have the incorrect air filter. Mine was black plastic item. Athough yours looks similar but just in metal

Lui
The Lui looks like a good basis for a project. The grey item is the holder for the Italian tax/reg doc if I'm not mistaken.

The plastic holder is for a 'tax' document and the air filter is integral with the carb body and very different to the 75 cc models. My intention is to keep the original paint but fully refresh the mechanicals and plastic trim.
Snails, the red Cometa is Alan Keanes grass track championship winning bike from 1972. I restored it a while ago and it was on show at Ryton the last time the club had a big turn out there.
Ps do you still have the expansion chamber exhaust for sale or am I mistaken?

Now that I think of it I'm sure I have too. What I haven't seen before is a locking fuel cap. My new bike has one. It's quite a well made item that locks into two slots in the neck of the tank. Now wether this was an accessory That came with a sleeve that was inserted into a standard fuel tank neck I ' m going to have a closer look.
