Re: Latest Project
that speedo / rev counter mod looks ace!
do you mind me asking what it is, it looks quite shallow in your photos - I am thinking of doing something similar with a SIP digital speedo but these are quite deep and took some squeezing into my series 2. I don't fancy the chances of getting one in a Vega headset with building it up loads.

Re: Latest Project
Cheers. Hi Mickey, it's an Acewell MD52 302, it's a 52mm diameter gauge. I wanted a Rev/speedo all in one. Koso do nice 52mm Gauges but not all-in-one units, so I plumped for this one. It's still quite deep but will fit - though it will be busy in the headset!
I have had to dremel out the inner ridge where the speedo goes, it now drops nicely into the hole & i cut the studs off & the plastic screw down. The only issue is the bezel sat on the slopes on the headset top, so I had a spacer made to lift & cure this. Now Aroldited on, when filled & painted it should look "S-Type stylee!!"
I also had to dremel wider the headset base where the cables go thru to accommodate the plugs, no issue as there is plenty of meat. I'll change the Blue plug with a 2 pin one, as i won't need all the gadgets on it. Using Varitronic ignition, so should have no power feed issues.

As I say fella, that looks awesome (as my teenager would say). The ace well looks really good but variatronic is out of my budget so sticking to SIP digital speedo in a spare headset I have. Would you mind me asking who made your spacer please? I'll need 1 of them too.

Re: Latest Project
Hi Mickey, I'm sure a SIP one will look the part. Lads at a place I deliver to did a guvvy job for me. Any small engineering shop with a lathe will be able to do one if you take all your parts into them.Good luck....Steve

Does the SIP one not need power too?

Cheers Trotsky
there's a few firms near me, i'll make some calls.
Hi Ed
the SIP one does need power (obviously) but they work AC and can just take a feed from the loom, I think I found a feed from the LT worked well on my Li but think I had to do that because its DC. A feed from the lights should be fine.

Re: Latest Project
Bit more done today, 4 plate clutch dry-built & Jockeys Chain Slipper in situ. Stuck with motor for now as waiting for Martin@Chiselspeeds wrists to heal after his Op on them as he's not able to do my head at the moment.
Not a problem though as hopefully everythings back from the painters next week .

Cheers Lunaloon, 140ish using 60.5mm KH500 piston, tuning re-tweeked by a mate (DSC Scotty), 26mm PHBH Dellorto with Mini Atomic Reed Valve, Starstream Crank & Gearing, 4 plate Clutch, Varitronic & Chiselspeed Pipe. Won't be a world-beater, but should be good for a smooth steady 50-55 & fun to ride!!

What modifications did you need to make to fit the clutch?

Cheers, yeah looking for good torque so enjoyable to ride. Again nothing wild, straight Ochre & a bit of chrome. A few nice simple alterations to the frame, wheels & fixtures.... straight & subtle

Cheers Daz Just really looked at all the various ideas & things people have done over the years, then along with my own idea of what I like, put them all into this one, hopefully keeping it simple looking & un-fussy....

Simple and un fussy always works for me too. In my opinion, for what little it's worth, many scooters are spoilt by making them over complicated. But there again different strokes for different folks. Yes to Ochre!

Just seen this thread Some great work and photos. Like the idea of a 4 plate clutch, I looked into this with a combo of red and green plates and steels to get it in the basket. In the end I opted for just the standard

Bit off topic I know but I always get so jealous when I see pictures of people garages and they are all neat and tidy and have proper shelving for tools and space to move around and work benches to put scooters on and decent lighting and there's a heater, and then I think about my garage and what its like and the shame of the mess its in!
Ho hum... I guess it better than working out on the street under a street light like I used when I was 16!
