pump looks good, a large turn over of liquid, which should help keep things cool.

radiator + lth reed valve
radiator and reed valve are here . even beter news is that the reed valve fits the stud spacing with no alterations. it will need tweeking in other areas though, as and when i get the cylinder tuned .
pic will be updated soon

lth reed valve
here are a few pics of the reed valve and barrel
the reed valve was altered by the last owner for their application. it needs a good polish

I got a few Vega related things for Xmas one was a old magazine from Aug 88 with a liquid cooled, reed valve 150 lc engine done by M.B . The bike was called "tales of the unexpected" and cost around £2300 back then

well its been a while since i last did owt to me cometa, so with a couple of hours spare today i had a go at the cylinder
started opening up the transfers
then started polishing me dome
did a bit on the frame aswell, enlarging the holes where the cables pass through the frame
will be finishing the crank in the next week or so.

tuning
as much as i would like to do the tuning i dont have the correct tools to do the job i only have a straight die grinder, so i think i will send it to mick abbey . i have done a few larger cylinders including an imola where i could get in with my die grinder . you need something like a dentist drill with a 90 degree head. i have allready gone too far on one off the transfers on my j cylinder it will need a spot of weld .

Re: j125 / tzr 150/ reed valve
SHAME THAT SIMON .WHAT LEVEL OF TUNE ARE YOU GOING FOR .QUITE HIGH BY THE SIZE OF THOSE NICE TRANSFERS.ITS NICE TO SEE A MODDED CYLINDER.I WILL BE SENDING MINE TO MICK ABBEY .DEPENDS ON YOUR TUNE I MIGHT HAVE EXACT SPEC.IF YOU DO NOT MIND HAVING YOURS DONE FIRST

very interesting post
Hi, I am a new member and your post is the first one that caught my eye, it all looks very interesting and I can't wait to hear how it goes but I thought I'd mention that if you only want a reliable 60 MPH
it seems way over the top, I used to have A racing J 125 which had no after market items on it.
Though it only had three gears and very little tuning to the barrel (as per Ken Herlingshaw's performance and tuning manual) just 3 mm from inlet, standard silencer and A 20mm -SX200 jetted carb & manifold.
this gives about 65 MPH but the biggest boost is the machined LI 150 head, which pushes top end
up to 75MPH.
finally a warning although my J was utterly mechanical reliable and as fast as most 200's you may need
to carry A pocketful of spare condensers as the standard type cant take the revs reliably.
Looking forward to the next instalment on this post's topic, many thanx.

Your most welcome
I should mention that the inlet manifold should be 150 or 125 SX type for SH20 or GP150 for SH 22 -
this also needs the stud holes re-drilled too - but if the exhaust is opened up more than just polishing (widening a little's OK) - you end-up losing it all (big time) tell who ever does it to beware - the good thing about this is that by not using a reed - you get twice the MPG and the power band is very flat all all the way through too and who knows with 4 gears you should crack 80MPH - best of luck with it

p.s
I seem to remember the head has to be machined for a short reach plug - the accessibility is a bit of a bitch with the plug at the back but it's a price worth the paying
