My Lui 50 project
Just picked this little project up for when I turn 16, running, everything there except from the backlight. A straight forward restoration

Thanks from the both of you ill be getting help from my Dad, he's had Lambrettas from the age of 16 so he has plenty of experience , yeah it's definitely a 50, the engine number is J50 * 58(and so on). Just out of interest what makes you think different?

Re: My Lui 50 project
The front wheel is actually out of a Vega 75 hence the reason why it has a speedo drive

Re: My Lui 50 project
So yesterday I finally got round to stripping the engine. I took the barrel head and piston off to find this. Someone in Italy has already had an attempt at boring it out and tuning it!

Re: My Lui 50 project
Woah, that's certainly thin looking at the barrel spigot/skirt, is there a bit missing to the right of the top inlet?. What does it measure across the bore? Perhaps someone in Italy thought it should have been 75cc and not 50cc

Re: My Lui 50 project
Yeah one of the spigot lugs have snapped at some point in time, I haven't been out in the garage today so I haven't took any measurements. All I know is that the piston is an Asso with the number 44 on it. Presumably a 44mm piston?

Re: My Lui 50 project
Nice. I cut the lugs off my cento barrel because they would be too thin after the rebore up to 125

All the paintwork is complete apart from the Wheel Rims.
It's getting there slowly but surely.
Snails notice this from anywhere? We've freed it off and up to press it works!

Re: My Lui 50 project
We soaked it in WD40 for a week or so... then we used a small flat end screwdriver to turn the drive inside, left it in soak until it fully worked.

Ah I see. Did you fix the cracked screen cover. Didn't even realise the mechanism was seized when I gave it you.

Re: My Lui 50 project
Yeah, we used a top from an old compressor tool. Perfect fit believe it or not, now complete sealed and with its original rim.
Booking the bike in for it's test next week.

Hi Adam
Just wondering where you got that speedo from? Doesn't look like the usual Veglia one, it's a German made VDO unit, weird?

Yep! No problems! On to registering now, had an insurance quote for £264 for the year. For a 17 year old I don't think that's bad at all.
The speedo is from Jem Booth and definitely a Veglia one.

I've just clicked on, you're on about the Black one? That's out of a Montessa, kindly given to me by Snails (Ed). I've since taken that out and replaced it with an original Veglia one courtesy of Jem Booth.
