lathe
i will using my new lathe. first job will be a set of spacer bushes for the engine mounts in stainless steel. then a set of bushes for the rear shock in nylon, series 3 taffspeed conversion. then i will be re doing the packer plate, not happy with the finish on the mk 1 ( lack of machining knowledge). front wheel spindle needs drilling to fit the damper studs, oh and may be some stainless fork rods and cups. these will be the practice for the main event, the water cooled head.

frame mods
a bit of progress today.
made a frame stand today to mount the cometa frame onto whilst working on it. this will come in handy when fabbing up a legsheild tool box. the water pump, radiator and battery will live in the tool box . i will put some pics up in a day or 2.
update of whats still to do
engine rebuild
crank pin and rebuild
legsheild tool box
cylinder tune
exhaust alterations
parts still needed
radiator
water pomp
engine rebuild kit
reed valve
tyres
cheers simon.

Re: j125 / tzr 150/ reed valve
good idea that simon, i had thought about making a bigger type frame to mount a engine in with brackets to mount electrics and a small petrol tank.
then under neath a set of rollers so that the engine once built could be started and then run in gear.
stuck for space at the moment, so will be another years project.

varitronic v af/vespa px
i am now thinking the charging output from the varitronic wont be upto the job of powering a pump and maybe a fan. but i do like the idea of variable timing. so its back to the px conversion i think and an agusto type timing adjuster. i will run the varitronic on my lui 75 i think.

i have the full cometa mounted on this stand. but a frame for hanging an engine in to and being able to run the engine, that would be a good idea

steady
lathe trouble and a new job has slowed progress . i cant seem to centre my self centering chuck, something wrong with the jaws. the lathe work i have done so far has been facing so being off centre has not been a problem. i need to enlarge the hole where the crank goes, which will need a hole saw 0f 85mm. i have ground some meat offf the big end of the rod. then i can rebuild the engine minus the top end. once i have this sorted i can do some better measuring of the top end, for the packer. i might put the legshields on tomorow and start the bread bin. i might get a bit more time on the project next week as i am covering for my dad running his workshop (cometa is there). i could also do with another starstream crank for measuring, i took measurments off my crank but another would be good to be absolutly sure. pumps and rads are easy to get, i know which ones i want. i could also do with a lth or jimmers reed valve or the loan of one to check fitment etc. i will update as and when i have made or lost progress. cheers simon. ps anyone else on with a wild conversion for their luna or j range ?. pps i think i have sussed the way forward for the lc head

i started work on the bread bin ( with "v" duct technology ) today. here are a few pics
an this will be the rad i will be using
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160502680973&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
i used the ancient art of gas welding to weld the box together,no filler wire was used. you cant beat the smell of burning luna paint
