rear hub bearing
I thought while i'm fitting the 5 speed gearing along with the NOS j125 4 speed layshaft i'd change the rear hub bearing for good measure. I had noticed at the dyno some time ago that I had a bit of rear wheel wobble so it was overdue.
I'm a bit of a fan of the right tool for the right job where possible so I ordered a bearing tool from Scooter Restorations.
I have a spare casing , and have read that the RIV bearings seldom fail so opted to use that one . This is the tool .
Inside the casing through the bearing
The extractor cup on the outside
The nut is then placed onto the thread and tightened, pulling the bearing into the cup and the tool is free through the casing
The bearing showing the outer seal
and from the inside

The cup now goes inside the casing with its base to spread the stress round the weak metalwork that is easy to break
The outside showing the threaded bar and now with the disc up to the bearing ready to be pulled into place
The nut is again run down the thread on the inside and tightened slowly pulling the bearing into place until it sits just proud of the housing
Job done , easy enough and no tears over a broken engine casing

Re: rear hub bearing
just a point of note, there is a chamfer on one side of the inside part of inner race.
if that makes and sense.
