Rear Shocker & Tyres Empty Rear Shocker & Tyres

OK, as I need new tyres and a nice looking shocker for my Lui project I'll ask what the rest of you are using or what options can be considered.

If you're not reconditioning your rear shocks what replacements are you using?

As for tyres can you get Michelin or Schwalbe tyres in 3.00 x 10?

you can can get schwable tyres in 3.00x10 in 3 variations of tread and a white wall. also there is a metric one that is about 5mm wider than the 3.00x 10. i was at mbd a couple of weeks ago and was asking what tyres they had in that size. lots of shockers about but you may have tinker abit to get one to fit. i will be using a series 3 shock, taffspeed adjustable . it will need some bushes making. hope this helps.. ps just remembered i got a brand new vega shock from k&s scooters in derby, you never know he may still have one left. cheers simon

Dont casa do a remade Luna shocker for about 60 notes.
Easier and maybe cheaper than getting another shock to fit?

Rear Shocker & Tyres Empty Re: Rear Shocker & Tyres

Ok, last weekend I found some time for trying to rebuild a Luna rear shocker.
In fact the one here was not in bad condition and I hoped to get along with filling up some damper oil.

Here we go: live is easy with the correct tools:
Rear Shocker & Tyres P10206309ypc

Only little pressure is needed to compress the spring and to release the two-halfs
Rear Shocker & Tyres P10206350yx1

After removing the spring you'll see the end cap which is screwed in:

Since I didn't have the correct tool to remove the cap a DIY one was just a matter of a flat bar of steel and two 5mm screws:

The top cap really was a tight fit even after cleaning and applying heat - without any force the bottom end snapped off while trying to remove the cap Sad Sad Sad

I then fixed the complete shocker into the vice and after some time of force - heat the cap finally came loose.
So only a few parts inside:
(Yep, this is the correct way the parts go in/out)
Rear Shocker & Tyres P1020652dl9i

Taking into account that with the old one:
1) the spring has to be rechromed
2) a couple of seals in silly diameters have to be replaced
3) the silent blocks have to prove to last some more years
4) the main rod has to be replaced in case of rust
I think the only solution is to purchase a new Casa one.

Anyway you see that it is possible to rebuild a Luna rear shocker! Just take good care not to snap it like I did.

Good reply 71 top photos there. I'd like to hear of a cheaper version of the Casa offering. I have 2 shockers one that's bad and the other that's poor. There must be an alternative Sad

i havea couple of shocks that are also in poor condition, so when i get chance i'll have a look at stripping them down as innocenti-71 has done, always nice to learn something ese, might be able to make one decent one out of them, but probably not Sad

i'd also be interested in finding another shock, rob devlin had one made for him, which was adjustable and also serviceable, but cant remember the price, probably not cheap.
my 125 vega had some bushings on the vega shock mount when i got it, and i assumed something like a series 3 shock had been fitted to it at some time.

stripped one down tonight, the top screwed in seal plate is a pain, lots of heat and several wd40 soakings and it came off.
the hot hydraulic oil stunk to high heaven, my clothes were thrown back into he garage by the wife.
the main rod is rusty so that obviously cant be reused, as yet i have not stripped the rod down, but there is also a long tube in the inside of the shock with holes in the bottom to (i assume) let hydraulic oil flow in out.
will be cheaper to buy new than renew for sure.
