vega 75 to 125 crank conversion.
my poorly little vega needs a rebore and conrod kit. can you convert the original vega crank to take a 125 cylinder.( longer rod), as I have a spare 125 cylinder and the starstream cranks seem hard to come by.

Hi, I would doubt the vega crank and Starstream conrod would be a thing that works, I could be wrong here but if it were that simple it would be out there in the Luna information world. I would think Martin Cook @ Chiselspeed would be worth a call he does the Starstream Jap conrod conversion. You might be able to get something exotic done with him to go with the re-bore.
Did you see the Starstream crank go through Ebay the other week? £250 inc postage

yeh I was watching it.somebody was keen.why hasn't no one started producing replica vega cranks ready to fit 125/140 barrels.i would of thought there would be big bore kits you could buy off the shelf as well. ive only just got in to vegaworld so still learning.(been a small frame vespa fan for years).

Re: vega 75 to 125 crank conversion.
I suppose it's all down to demand. Luna sales will be small compared to the larger series scooters , then the cost would make some kits eye watering to buy. The best place probably would be abroad i.e Vietnam etc where labour costs would be low. They could remake loads of things , headlights and rims, wheel rims, kits and pipes and of course Cranks, the list is a long one. I'm sure one day there will be production of such things and then the price of Luna parts will fall which can't be a bad thing.
When Innocenti sold the machinery to S.I.L did the Luna tooling go there aswell? Or perhaps this range had no place in such a country and the plant etc was lost. Pete would know I guess.

Re: vega 75 to 125 crank conversion.
I recall someone telling me the vega tooling and presses etc were not wanted, and were scrapped, I'm sure it was a bicycle manufacturer who bought it all along with other parts as a job lot.
im sure its only a matter of time until the j range and hopefully starstream cranks are redone its probably just waiting for tino to get round to it, perhaps Siobhan can have a quiet word in his ear.
I think the same will go for the cylinders as he has done with the vega set up.

vega crank
spoke to chisel speed, they said they can rebore standard barrel to fit a Japanese piston, machine down barrel, machine head. then put a Japanese conrod in crank. stripped engine today got another problem now. the crank is really worn where the mag side bearing has been spinning so now I need a new crank. back to the dilemma- find a 125 crank and go down that route or buy a new 75 crank and tune the 75 barrel.

Re: vega 75 to 125 crank conversion.
There is a thread in "Parts and alternatives" headed "New 75cc cranks" take a look, it could be an option. Alternatively there is a J 125 engine on Ebay, it's a 3 speed engine I'm not sure if it workable though because of that. Someone on here is bound to know if they work in a Vega engine casing.

3 speed crank won't fit in a vega case thackers - just for the record - that would be too easy

I have no influence on Tino.
The Italians tend to produce for the Lui as there are loads there in Italy.

Someone should be able to repair your crank Dave by building it up with weld then machining down.
