our Vega-in-bits
now that our move is done, I was able to get our Vega out and take some pics. Ill add more as I get the engine and other pieces unboxed. I think im going to do a dry build on this scoot to make sure I have everything before I send it out for media blast and painting.
yes...I know I have my work cut out for me

ut oh, just found out the forks for this scoot, which were out getting a stripped and buggered up thread hole fixed are halfway across the country thanks to the US postal system...they were only 2 states away and have ended up 10 states in the other direction...fingers crossed we get them!

Re: our Vega-in-bits
the fork turned up, so at least that isnt lost!
managed to get one table to dedicate for use for the Vega. I am thinking that I need to get this thing running as-is, then once running and everything working, I can strip it for a paintjob. Ive done a fair bit already, but I just need to know everything is here and its gonna work!
this is the frame and most of the parts. Ive put the stand on, and some bodywork loosely.
putting the stand on revealed a bent arm for the brake lever..
so i checked the brake pedal that came with the Vega and see that the pin for the lever is stuck in it. I didnt know that when I sent it out for powder coating...so now I need to see if I can get that out without damaging the powder coating too much. If not, Ill have to find a new pin, and use the replacement pedal.
the replacement hub I sourced is on the left, once I got the box o missing bits for this scooter, I sent out the original hub (on the right) for powder coating. its now all built and waiting for the forks to be built to be installed
engine media blasted and ready for cleaning then painting and building.
exhaust and some other powder coated original parts
polished levers and housings. trying to work out if I have all the parts for this. I dont seem to have the little tube that the throttle cable would go through, like a D one. are these made?
an assortment of springs that came in the box o bits.
think the 2 that are opposites of each other are some kind of rack spring?
box o bits to sort through. some Ser3 and LD items were mixed in, and some unknown things
I ordered a replacement column lock, but its the wrong kind. I have the original lock, I might see if I can get a local locksmith to cut a key for it. if not, are these strap on locks also made?
some new and more old parts

Re: our Vega-in-bits
Hi Gene, the long spring is either off the centre stand (return spring) or the brake pedal the others look like they might have come from a seat.
In all your boxes o bits have you got the throttle worm? It's small enough to easilly get lost. If memory serves it's oblong shaped and about a cm long with a raised ridge on the top set at a angle, this ridge sits inside the diagonal slot of the throttle tube, pictured with the gear change lever.

Re: our Vega-in-bits
I got a new throttle worm (and throttle tube) from Scootopia. Its an aluminum one, not brass. the parts book shows some other parts in that area Ill have to make a list and ask what they are, to see if I have them or not. I can see its gonna take some filing to get that whole mechanism to operate smoothly. I rode a Vega once that had been imported from the UK and the main thing I remember was how stiff the throttle was - you almost needed 2 hands to turn it! I wont let mine be that way
thanks for info on the spring. ill get that put on. one of the springs looks like a ser 3 brake shoe spring...unsure of the others.
ill get more pics as I assemble things and Im sure Ill have more questions

Re: our Vega-in-bits
the throttle tube / worm set up can be bad, my remade tobe was not perfectly round which i certainly dont think helped but after some bashing and a lot of swearing it was better.
i used a mixture of grease and grinding paste on the parts and connected up the carb, so there was resistance on the cable while in the tube, then it was just a case of turning the throttle what seemed thousands of times untill it all bed in together.
cleaned it all out and then just re-greased.
