How as anyone gotten around the issue of fixing a number plate to a Lui due to it not having a fixing and not wanting to fit the Vega holder and rear light as it just wasn't meant to be.

I have seen this done but only in a photo. Wish I'd kept a copy as I want to do it to. From memory it looked like they had placed two bolts through the middle-ish area. Maybe they had drilled some additional holes and placed a spacer behind???

Why not consider a Vespa smallframe number plate holder as they are not too big. Some spacers may be needed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vespa-Small-Frame-Number-Plate-Mounting-Bracket-/170672593402?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item27bce119fa
