Any Recommendations?
I'm looking for an engine upgrade for my Lui 50, and I wonder if anyone on here could shed any light on a suitable upgrade?

Re: Any Recommendations?
Hi Adam and welcome along. There are plenty of folk who have tuned up a Lui and I think they went the 80cc Parma kit
http://www.scootopia.co.uk/product/6402-3376/Casa-Lambretta-80cc-parma-kit
There is a more complex and harder to source parts conversion which uses a 4 speed Starstream engine and 150 TZR piston which gives an overall cc of around 135cc, I think other pistons can be used but this conversion is a costly exercise.
There is a good sized parts fair coming up at Wicksteed, oct 7th I think. You might stumble upon a bargain if you're lucky.

Re: Any Recommendations?
Thanks Thackers,
I'm restoring my Lui for when I turn 16 in January, I'm thinking of going with the Parma 80 kit, was wondering if there is any other upgrades that would be needed in order to gain full performance from the kit?

Re: Any Recommendations?
I think Joey Fontane has one of these kits he's the one to ask. Perhaps if you could get a Vega 75 exhaust it might help possibly a bigger carb too. You would have to watch out for the fed's wouldn't you with a 80cc machine at just 16?

Re: Any Recommendations?
Yeah that's why I thought about the 80 kit rather than the 135 conversion, I think I'd be less likely to get pulled over with the parma kit, I'm just a little weary that a standard 50 may be a dangerously slow?

Re: Any Recommendations?
Fair point well made Adam, I've just checked on Cambridge Lambretta website, they are showing a Parma kit in stock, if your a lcgb member or know one, they give a good discount.

Re: Any Recommendations?
I wasn't aware of the discount available, that's great!, I'll be making myself a member when I'm 16. I've sent Joey Fontane a PM on here, hopefully he'll shed light on the kit and anything else. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking the time out to get back to me, it's much appreciated. I'll keep you updated as the resto goes on

Re: Any Recommendations?
Also do you know of any reproduction Speedos or any speedos from other bikes that would fit the Lui headset?

Re: Any Recommendations?
The Parma kit definitely the way to go. I think there is a front sprocket available to up your gearing. Otherwise I you get more power but not as much increase in top speed. Std Luis are very slow and lack any power so u are right about that.
Joey can advise on the carb I'm sure. Pipe wise I think your options are more limited.
If you don't mind a cracked face I have a spare none vega speedo that I think will fit. Some berk sent it in the post just wrapped in a plastic bag for protection. Give me a shout once you have the scoot

Think I'm defiantly going to go with the Parma Kit. If you could do that then it would be much appreciated, what sort of money are we talking for it?

any recommendations?
hi , I have just had the casa kit fitted to the lui 50 cl , its not a cheap job, but ups the hp from 1 to about 5 so well worth the extra money. What I have learnt is you need to start at one end and finish at the other. Its no good fitting a 80cc kit and then strangling it with a small carb, air filter, manifold and exhaust. Search ebay for a dellorto sh20 carb and a foam filter is the cheapest option. Vega exhausts are a fortune so good luck with that one. As said gears need altering and with hindsight a four speed would be nice. You will also find like me the crank is worn on a 67/68 bike so replace that too.

Re: Any Recommendations?
A vega pipe will not necessarily fit on a Lui as there is no mounting lug on the engine casing
The speedo would be free. Can't really ask for money that is essentially broken.

That would be highly appreciated Snails, Thank you, what about P&P? I'll also bare that in mind, I wasn't aware about that info with the Vega exhaust, I was thinking about a Vega exhaust I'll have to think otherwise now then

Re: Any Recommendations?
Speak with Patch at Scooter Restorations. He's done work on Lui 50's and rides one himself but as a Casa dealer will try and sell you one of their kits.

on a 50 engine don't know for sure... but what about a std j125 exhaust ?or cento 100, might need a bit of modifying? but should work....
for me... no good as they don't work under water...

Ha ha. Nice photo Joey
You know it would not surprise me if an upgrade pipe was manufactured eventually. It wod se logical after doing the kit and sprocket
There was someone making some in domewhere like Belgum a while back. No idea if any good or if still going

If you are after a one off exhaust making, i'd have a word with Mick Abbey. When I was round his workshop the other week he was making exhausts for motorbikes and is mad keen to make one for my reed conversion he's doing .
